Exhibition “Window to the Old Town” from Võru

The exhibition “Window to the Old Town” awaits visitors!

In August 2024, a wonderful outdoor exhibition titled “Window to the Old Town” was created in co-creation with the people of Southeast Estonia. The material for the exhibition was gathered through an open call held earlier this year, where the Võru city government invited building owners from Võru, Põlva, and Valga to share their creative and interesting solutions for reusing old building materials.

As a highlight, a historical window restoration workshop was held at the beginning of June, where participants had the chance to practically go through the various stages of restoring an old window with guidance from an experienced instructor.

Based on the submitted works and the window restoration workshop, an exhibition was created that opens up different perspectives — the building owners’ inventive solutions, various facts, and guides on environmentally friendly renovation and circular economy principles.

It is important for all of us to be more aware of these topics, as they are crucial steps in slowing down and adapting to climate change, as well as unleashing creativity and ingenuity. Reusing materials helps keep alive the stories connected to old buildings and strengthens the “roots” of cultural heritage, which help create, shape, and preserve local identity.

The exhibition demonstrates that reusing old objects or materials sparks creativity in people, offering fascinating stories about the origins and original uses of the materials, the people associated with them, and more.

You are welcome to come see the exhibition and become more aware of environmental and cultural heritage topics!
